Lister Hospital terminates contract with Bounty

Published on: 17/07/2019

We read the news a little while ago that the maternity wards of Lister Hospital had ended their contract with the well known parenting club Bounty, after the company was fined £400,000 for illegally sharing the personal data of more than 14 million people.

Concerns have also been raised in the past by campaigners about “invasive” practices both pre and postnatally.

The Telegraph is now reporting further hospitals are reviewing their contracts:

“East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust has now confirmed that it has served a notice on its current contract with Bounty following the ICO verdict.
Other trusts, including North Bristol NHS Trust, said they will review contracts with Bounty when it runs out in the next few months.”

We know that many expectant mums have used the Bounty pack wallet to store their maternity notes in the past. Whilst they might not have any freebies inside, our Wellbeing Wallets are precisely for the purpose of keeping notes safe, whilst most importantly giving potentially life saving information at the same time. If your hospital does not yet supply them, you can purchase one here.
Perhaps you’d even like to fundraise for MAMA Academy to help supply your area with our Wellbeing Wallets? Get in touch with dom@mamaacademy.org.uk for more information about this.

One concern hospitals have sometimes had when initially talking to us about supplying our Wellbeing Wallets is whether they will impact on their contract with Bounty. We can confirm that even if your trust is keeping their Bounty contract, there is no impact at all (Bounty themselves have confirmed this). If your hospital is interested in supplying our life saving Wellbeing Wallets, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!

If your NHS Trust would like more information on how successful the Wellbeing Wallets have been, then feedback can be found here.
