Bereavement Midwife Services

Bereavement Midwives: Essential Support During Pregnancy Loss

Bereavement midwives are specialist midwives who support families experiencing the loss of a pregnancy or the death of a baby. Their role is crucial in providing emotional support, guidance, and practical assistance during such a devastating time. However, it can be challenging to know what support is available and how to contact these professionals. Some hospitals will also have a bereavement nurse for early pregnancy loss or for babies who may sadly die in the first year following birth.

To make it easier for you, we have compiled a list of bereavement teams and resources available in hospitals across England.

How to Access Bereavement Support not listed

Although we have tried to include every hospital, your local Trust may not be listed. Another way to access the bereavement team are:

  1. Ask Your Midwife or Doctor: If you are currently under the care of a midwife or doctor, they can direct you to the bereavement team at your hospital.
  2. Hospital Website: Visit the website of your local hospital. Many hospitals list their bereavement services and contact information online.
  3. Patient Liaison Services (PALS): Most hospitals have a PALS office that can provide information on bereavement support. They can be reached through the main hospital switchboard.
