The information contained on the wallets complements the work of NHS England’s Saving Babies’ Lives care bundle and is in line with the safer pregnancy messaging by Sands and Department of Health.

Available for Trusts

Our wallets form part of the national stillbirth initiative work. They act as great conversation starters for midwives to empower mums with knowledge about possible pregnancy conditions and midwives love giving a gift to their mums.

An initial pilot generously funded by NHS England, saw 80,000 Wellbeing Wallets distributed within 15 NHS Trusts across the country. Nearly all of the trusts reported a significant decrease in stillbirth rates whist the wallets were in use. Midwives noticed that women regularly read the information printed on their wallet whilst waiting for appointments and they made women act on concerns rather than ignore them, citing three cases where, acting on the information had undoubtedly saved babies lives. MAMA Wellbeing Wallets are currently being distributed by over TWO THIRDS of NHS trusts nationwide. An audit carried out within Lewisham & Greenwich and St.George’s NHS Trusts, showed how the wallets are improving pregnancy outcomes without causing unnecessary admissions.
