Memory Wallets

Our Memory Wallets are for families who experience pregnancy loss/the death of a baby at any gestation.

This initiative is aligned with the Pregnancy Loss Review and the National Bereavement Care Pathway (NBCP) and aims to enhance the care and support provided to those navigating such a profound loss.

In collaboration with NHS London Midwives and London Ambulance Service.

The Memory Wallets are a practical and emotional resource designed for families in need. These wallets were co-created from the outset with input from families and healthcare professionals, ensuring they reflect the real needs of those affected and used language that was trauma informed. Whether a family experiences their loss in A&E, at home and seeing their GP for support, in early pregnancy or in maternity – all can be given these wallets ensuring consistent and clear information with direct links to support parents’ physical and mental health needs.

We have chosen light, pastel colours of pink and blue so that these wallets can be identified easily and told apart from our standard ones. If parents don’t want to be seen with it, they can fold it up very easily and put it in a pocket or bag.

There are bite size snippets of information so parents can digest further information in their own time, at their own pace. QR codes on the wallet link to web pages on:

On the web pages, there are drop down boxes so parents can select the info they want rather than have to scroll through pieces they may find difficult and choose not to read. They also feature a peer to peer support group on Facebook which is monitored by MAMA Academy and the MAMA Bereavememt Helpline for bereavement support by our team of midwives.

There’s also a QR code to a short survey so we can collect feedback from parents to improve the wallets as they evolve.

Any page on our website is translatable in 100 languages so we can also help to support non-English speaking parents too.
