Rainbow Wallets
Experiencing a pregnancy following a previous loss or death of a baby is an emotional journey. The anticipation of a new life is interwoven with the grief and fear from the past. Pregnant women and birthing people who have suffered a pregnancy loss are also at higher risk of suffering a subsequent loss.
Our Rainbow Wallets are a practical and emotional resource designed for families navigating a pregnancy after a previous loss. These wallets were co-created from the outset with input from families and healthcare professionals, ensuring they reflect the real needs of those affected and used language that was trauma informed.
Following on from our hugely successful Wellbeing Wallets which have proved to reduce stillbirths significantly, the Rainbow Wallet also contains all of the Department of Health’s official safer pregnancy messaging and perfectly compliments the NHS Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle. They are also 100% recyclable.
In collaboration with Hampshire Hospitals, their Forget-Me-Not Fund and P.S…A baby loss charity.
Information on the wallet includes how to monitor fetal movements, signs & Symptoms of complications and how to advocate for yourself.
There are QR codes which point to 22 translated versions, a safer pregnancy awareness video with BSL, an audio version for the visually impaired and a video to explain who we are and why we do what we do. If parents don’t want to be seen with it at their initial appointments, they can fold it up very easily and put it in a pocket or bag.
The wallets are in the MAMA branding colours to help neuro divergent parents and there are QR codes to our webpages on mental health information, signs of jaundice, informed consent, newborn screening & safe sleeping. There is also a webpage specifically for Black & Brown skinned parents.
There are bite size snippets of information so parents can digest further information in their own time, at their own pace. QR codes on the wallet link to web pages on:
- Common Feelings
- How to navigate this next pregnancy
- The MAMA Pregnancy Helpline
- Peer to Peer support
On the web pages, there are drop down boxes so parents can select the info they want rather than have to scroll through pieces they may find difficult and choose not to read. The wallets also feature a peer to peer support group on Facebook which is monitored by MAMA Academy and the MAMA Pregnancy Helpline for bereavement support by our team of midwives.
Any page on our website is translatable in 100 languages so we can also help to support non-English speaking parents too.
The wallet also contains inside:
- Anxiety Toolkit
- Mindfulness Tools
