Mums and Families in Mind

The “Mums and Families in Mind” project developed by The Mental Health Foundation (MHF) and the Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA) has been successful in securing £500k of funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

This will mean that midwives, health visitors and other professionals in Blackpool, Haringey, Southend and Gloucestershire (where the project is being rolled out) will receive extra training in perinatal mental health.  They will work with “local champions” to offer support in ways which have already been shown to be successful in previous MHF pilot projects. It is hoped that this project will positively impact more than 20,000 mothers and their children.

MHF CEO Jenny Edwards said: “Reaching vulnerable children at a young age is vital for their long-term mental health. This work funded by the Big Lottery Fund is making a real difference in the lives of young mothers and their babies by investing in their future. We look forward to working with the MMHA to deliver this.”
