MAMA blogs for Healthy Newborn Network

MAMA Academy are proud to announce a partnership with Healthy Newborn Network (HNN) in a bid to help address gaps in newborn health. We aim to work together with HNN to reduce gobally the number of babies dying and to increase commitment to newborn health.

HNN is an online community with partners across the world that help to illustrate- to professionals and organisations- the experiences of maternity care and critical gaps in newborn health. By doing this, HNN is able to highlight areas which need to be addressed urgently in order to save lives.

HNN says, “In many communities around the world children are not named until they survive their first month of life- the newborn period. Globally, 2.8 million newborns die, and 2.6 million babies are stillborn each year. Four out of five newborn deaths result from preventable and treatable conditions: preterm birth; infections; and complications during childbirth.”

MAMA Academy is dedicated to raising awareness of the 5700 babies that are stillborn or die shortly after birth each year in the UK. We also aim to reduce this number, with our Made to Measure campaign and by providing positive support and guidance to women and professionals. We aim to do this with our study day presentations for midwives, and by being online to support women through their pregnancies.

Our partnership with HNN is a positive step in the journey towards saving babies lives. We work closely with NHS England and we’re determined to empower more women and professionals to know more about stillbirth so that they can be better prepared to prevent it.
