Award for Midwife Who Went the Extra Mile

Published on: 04/02/2016

Midwife Bryany Tweedale-Bend has been named as Wales’ Emma’s Diary Mums’ Midwife of the Year 2016, following a nomination from mum Laura Geary. The nomination was made after the midwife supported Laura through a complicated pregnancy.

The award is one of the Royal College of Midwives annual accolades which recognises the work of exceptional midwives across the country. Despite complications which meant that Laura was induced early and was subsequently unable to deliver at the midwife-led unit, Bryany continued to provide support and encouragement.

Laura said: “It was my first pregnancy and I was quite anxious, but Bryany made me feel completely at ease and was always at the end of the phone.

“Even though she wasn’t there to deliver my daughter, as my community midwife I saw her immediately for the aftercare. She was full of advice and support and importantly helped empower me rather than telling me what was best for me and my baby.”

Do you have an amazing midwife you’d like to tell us about?
