The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) have released updated guidelines on diabetes in pregnancy.  They lower the fasting plasma glucose thresholds for diagnosis, and include new recommendations on self-management for women with type 1 diabetes.

They set the diagnostic threshold for gestational diabetes as:

– a fasting plasma glucose level of 5.6 mmol/litre or above or
– a 2‑hour plasma glucose level of 7.8 mmol/litre or above.
