The first of eight midwives due to face Nursing and Midwifery Council misconduct hearings, Marie Ratcliffe, chose not to attend her hearing.  The midwives, all from University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, face disciplinaries by the NMC following a series of cases of inadequate care and infant deaths.  In a letter read to the panel Marie Ratcliffe said she is no longer working as a midwife and has no plans to return to the profession.  Ms Ratcliffe said: “I am a human being of good will and I accept that I have made mistakes and apologise to those affected by them.”
