Free vitamins in pregnancy for Scotland

The Scottish Government has announced that it will give all pregnant women free vitamins from next Spring. It comes as part of a range of initiatives as part of Scotland’s commitment to giving children the best start.

 

Some women already receive free vitamins, but this move will ensure universal access. The Scottish Government recently announced giving every newborn a ‘baby box’ of essential items, the recruitment of 500 additional health visitors, an extension of a scheme to support every teenage mother, and the doubling of childcare to 30 hours a week for all three years olds and vulnerable two year olds.

 

RCM Scotland national officer Emma Currer said: ‘The RCM welcomes the Scottish Government’s commitment to investing in all pregnant women. As it is widely known, the lives of healthy children start from conception and this initiative, along with the other steps will support this.’
