A joint paper published by British Journal of Midwifery, the Journal of Health Visiting and the British Journal of School Nursing has called politicians and stakeholders to address six threats to maternity and child health services: ageing workforce, inadequate recruitment, heavy caseloads, low staffing levels, lack of training, and a need for fair pay.

RCM chief executive Cathy Warwick said: ‘This is a strident call from the heart of these professions and one that we would support. Midwives and their health visitor and school nurse colleagues are coping with increasing demand without the required increase in staffing or resources to enable them to meet that demand.”
