Extra support for professionals re: FGM
Published on: 16/07/2015
The Department of Health (DH), NHS England and the NSPCC have joined forces to help support frontline health practitioners tackling FGM. The three organisations want to ensure that all frontline health professionals are confident about the appropriate action needed when they come across cases of FGM. They have therefore worked together to train helpline practitioners and to provide an enhanced service on the NSPCC’s FGM helpline.
Kam Thandi, head of the NSPCC FGM helpline said: “We understand the pressure that health professionals face in extremely fast-paced and busy environments and we’re here to support them with any of the complex questions or concerns they may have about FGM…Our team of practitioners, trained by specialist FGM midwives, can help NHS staff assess the situation and discuss what to do next, including signposting to other services which may be able to help.”
NSPCC FGM helpline is available on 0800 028 3550
