Training for London 100

Published on: 14/07/2018

We have 5 cyclists taking up the challenge of the Prudential Ride London 100 this year for MAMA Academy, raising vital funds to help save little lives.

About the ride:

“Celebrating the legacy for cycling created by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follows a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey’s stunning countryside. With leg-testing climbs and a route made famous by the world’s best cyclists at the London 2012 Olympics, it’s a truly spectacular event for all involved. The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 finishes on The Mall in central London, shortly before 150 professional cyclists race in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic on a similar route.”
You can find out more over on the Prudential RideLondon Website.

The training:

So what is the training like for such an event? With not long to go, we asked midwife, Claire.

Claire has just completed week 6 of an 8 week indoor Ride London cycling program with a team from Njinga Cycling who are local to her. Outdoor riding has unfortunatley been a little restricted due to the heat over these last few weeks. Claire’s furthest ride to date has been a whopping 92 miles! Plus she has managed to conquer the Ride London hills which is set to be a gruelling part for all of the riders.
It’s certainly been hard work and Claire says “I’m not saying I’m madly in love with my bike at the moment and have had a few wobbles where I have threatened to sell it on eBay or leave it on the side of the road for someone to take away for me!”
Despite this, Claire is feeling determined to complete the challenge for her sponsors, Heidi and to raise vital funds for saving future little lives.

Go Team MAMA!

All at MAMA Academy are routing for Claire, Adam, Tom, Liza and Ben! There will be fantastic finish pictures for all to see (which we can’t wait for!) but we also want to say how much we appreciate the exhausting training you are all putting in for the challenge.

Go team MAMA! You’ve got this!
