Pregnancy sickness support

Published on: 23/03/2017

Charities have warned that women who experience severe sickness during pregnancy are not being given enough support or information.

The charity, Pregnancy Sickness Support, surveyed 400 women suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) with half stating that accessing appropriate care was difficult.

Whilst some specialist clinics are being able to offer better support, the charity is calling for more hospitals to be able to offer specialist day clinic support. This would allow women to access specialist support from trained staff and avoid long hospital stays.

The charity also raised concerns that women were misled about the risks involved with taking certain medications to treat HG, which are in fact considered safe.
