Choice of midwife guidance

Having a friendly or trusted face at delivery is always welcomed by mums to be, but did you get to chose your midwife?

New guidance from The Royal College of Midwives has been released to help healthcare professionals respond to requests for a specific midwife to be present at delivery.  Produced in response to requests from it’s members, it is hoped that the new advice will help to accommodate women’s wishes whilst allowing medical staff to deal with the constraints of running a efficient services.

Director for services to members, Dr Suzanne Tyler said: ‘We recognise that keeping a maternity service running and providing a service to all is complex and challenging but hope that with planning, communication and flexibility the NHS should be able to accommodate women’s choices.’
